CHEAP & QUICK Crochet Christmas Projects [People Will ACTUALLY Want]
Looking for cheap & quick crochet Christmas projects to add a handmade touch to your holiday celebrations? From charming gift bags to festive granny square coasters, these easy-to-make ideas are perfect for last-minute gifts or holiday decor!
Every year I vow to be the type of person who meticulously plans out my holiday handmade gifts. I envision myself starting in July and having everything done the week before Thanksgiving.
And then reality smacks me upside the head, lol.
It’s the beginning of December and I have just started my Christmas crochet projects. This year I need them to be quick, but they also need to be budget friendly!
CHEAP & QUICK Crochet Christmas Projects
Each one of these projects was made with Dollar Tree yarns. I have found them to great bang for the buck.
I only use the brands that are made by Premier Yarns. For these projects I used:
- Just Yarn Worsted
- Just Chenille
- Just Chenille Medley
- Just Cotton
- Just Yarn Teddy
- Just Yarn Plush
This post contains affiliates links and at no cost to you I may earn a teeny tiny commission if you choose to purchase them. Please know that I only recommend products I use and love! Thank you for supporting Elise Rose Crochet! You can read my full (and slightly boring) full disclosure here.
But if your local Dollar Tree doesn’t carry many (or any) of these yarns you can purchase the same yarns in larger amounts straight from the Premier Yarns website.

Crochet Gift Bags
These crochet gift bags are such a fun little project to whip up! I used Dollar Tree Just Chenille in two solid colors and the Medley variation. They work up super quick and are extremely budget friendly!
Crochet Gift Bag Pattern
Ch 2
Round 1: in 2nd ch from hook (1st ch) make 10 dc [10]
Round 2: join to top of 1st st with slst, ch 3 (counts as a st & throughout) dc once more in same st, dc inc each st [20]
Round 3: join to top of ch 3 from previous round, ch 3, in next st dc inc, (1 dc, inc) x 9 [30]
Round 4: join to top of ch 3 from previous round BLO, ch 3, dc in each st BLO [30]
Rounds 4 – 11: join to top of ch 3 from previous round, ch 3, dc in each st [30]
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Add a draw string by using a smooth yarn (use a cotton or acrylic yarn as the chenille yarn will shred). Thread the yarn through a yarn needle. Weave the yarn in and out of Round 10, skipping every other st. Draw the ends together to make a bow and cinch the bag closed.
Optional: Add a decorative bow.
Price Breakdown:
- $1.25 for the yarn (for one gift bag)
- $1.25 for the little ribbon (comes in packs of 6)
Total for one gift bag = $2.50
Bubble the Catster
For Bubble the Catster I used Dollar Tree Just Yarn Teddy and Just Yarn Plush. I have the full pattern and video tutorial available here:

Crochet Face Scrubbies
These are the simplest, easiest project of them all! I used Dollar Tree Just Cotton in the colors Dusty Rose and Cream.
Make 6 in total, 3 of each in the colors:

I was soooooooo excited to get out to our Allegan, MI Dollar Tree to see if they have the yarns you featured only to find out that THEY DID NOT carry ANY yarn 🙁
Had to go to a larger town – 15 miles away, but still appreciate the patterns and have been able to duplicate the ones I wanted to make.
I think after Christmas I will ask the store manager if they could carry a small about in their “crafts” section; I am finding new friends that knit/crochet that would make it worth their while, I think
Meanwhile – Thank YOU for the encouragement to us newbies and helping us make our journey a fun one!
I’m so glad you were able to find some! We have another Dollar Tree in my town and they barely have any yarn. It’s weird how different they all are!
How did you interpret the 2nd round of the scrunchies: sc, sc2tog *or* sc, sc-inc? (Or something I didn’t consider?)
Love these ideas (and promptly scoured my DT for your suggestions!).
Thanks!
Hello! I missed that all together, lol! I just did double crochets around the hair tie and did as many as would fit! I started with a chain 3 and then at the end I just slip stitched to the top of the chain 3 to join. Hope that makes sense!
I thought the same thing when I was watching the video. She is calling it a SC2Tog, but that would happen over two stitches. She’s clearly doing 2 SC in the same stitch, in every other stitch to create more of a ruffle effect. I may have to try these for the folks I know with long hair! They are so cute!
They were so much fun to make! Plus they whip up so quickly and are fantastic stash busters!
I crocheted the crochet bags to hold Christmas candies and gift cards. They worked up very quickly and looked phenomenal! Easy pattern to follow. The only ask would be to add the size of the crochet hooks above. But other than that small things, which I figured out quickly, I loved this!
Thanks so much for sharing! I should have included that information! Yikes!
