Reviewing $322 Worth of CROCHET BOOKS [So You Don’t Have To]
Today I’m reviewing $322 worth of crochet & knit books, so you don’t have to. It’s $322.15, to be exact. Almost all of these books were published in 2024 and this might be my favorite collection yet.
So when the wonderful folks from Search Press asked if they could send me some new crochet and knitting books I calmly said, “Of course, that would be wonderful!” But inside I was doing a weird little dance celebrating the fact that my two loves were colliding and Christmas would be coming early for me.
We’ve got crochet card decks, a stitch library, granny square books, a crochet blanket book, plus knitted and crocheted toy books. Whew!
Let’s get started!

Bella Coco’s Crochet Stitch Card Deck
First we have Bella Coco’s brand new Crochet Stitch Card Deck. The deck contains 52 different cards each with a unique crochet stitch.
On the front of each card is a really nice photo of the swatch made from the stitch. It also includes the skill level as well as the multiples and the stitches used.
On the back of the card you’ll find the written instructions for how to make the stitch. The deck is also divided into two categories. Simple Stitches and Textured stitches.
This is such a fun way to learn how to make new crochet stitches and I love that it’s portable and easy to use.
Plus this is a great resource for those of you who love to come up with your own crochet designs.
I really like the size and feel of these cards. They aren’t flimsy and these would make a great gift for a crafty friend or loved one (or maybe a nice little gift for yourself).
The deck comes out on December 3rd, so it’s perfect timing!

Bella Coco’s Crochet Stitch Library
Next is also a new resource from Bella Coco. It’s her Crochet Stitch Library. It contains her top 100 stitches, borders and motifs.
This is such a wonderful encyclopedia for all things crochet. I love having a book like this in my library because Sarah-Jayne has included information about gauge, the anatomy of a stitch plus blocking basics.
I could spend hours just looking at different crochet stitches, they are so fascinating and I’ve found so many that I have never even heard of before!
That’s what I love about crochet, there’s always something new to learn.
The book comes out on January 14th so it’s only available for pre-order right now.

The Granny Square Card Deck
I’ve got another unique resource and it’s the Granny Square Card Deck by Claire Montgomerie.
It includes 50 mix and match granny square designs. The cards look to be life size granny squares and they are so colorful and pretty.
All of these granny squares are the same dimensions, using the same size hook and yarn. This enables you to mix and match the granny squares to come up with totally unique crochet projects.
How fun would it be to make a granny square sampler blanket from this deck?
Each card has the photo of the granny square on the front and then on the back you’ll find the chart.
In one of my recent videos I got a lot of questions about reading a crochet chart. I found a great resource from my friend Roz, from Play Hooky With Me. She has a wonderful video for how to read a crochet chart.
Once you learn how to read a chart, it makes crocheting different granny squares soooo much simpler.

In this book you’ll find unique crocheted squares and I love the idea of making one each week of the year.
There are written instructions as well as charts for each of the squares. Plus at the end of the book you’ll find four projects to make with the squares.
The First Bloom Blanket is absolutely stunning!

My Granny Square Wardrobe
This next book just came out and it is so much fun. If you love granny squares and you love making wearables, this is your book.
My Granny Square Wardrobe contains 15 stunning crochet designs to wear. You’ll find accessories, cardigans, sweaters, and overalls just to name a few.
But what’s even better is that I have two copies and would love to give one away to you. You’ll find a link to the Google form in the description box and I will choose a winner on December 14th, 2024.
I think my favorite project from this book is the Carefree Coatigan on the cover. I love these bright colors and the light pink background of the squares. I would wear this everywhere!

Block by Block Blankets and Afghans
Block by Block Blankets and Afghans is one of the most unique crochet books I’ve ever encountered. Written by Amanda Perkins and published only a few short weeks ago, this is a fascinating book of crocheted blankets.
First all of the colors are based on the NDS which is the Natural Dye Studio. Only colors that can be made from natural plant dyes are included in the patterns. These are subtle, unsaturated shades.
Next, each of the patterns is written in what the author calls Long Hand. These are written in a more user friendly style than a traditional crochet pattern. If you are already a pro at reading patterns, you will have no problems.
But if you are newer to crochet, I think you’ll find these patterns very helpful. She doesn’t assume that you already know everything, but takes the time to explain each step.
These projects are absolutely stunning. Each one is so unique and she gives you different color variations for each project. This is such a well thought out crochet book and I’m so happy to have it in my collection.

All three books are so cute, but I think my favorite is Mini Amigurumi Birds. They are adorable and totally quirky. Plus these are all great little stash buster projects because they use so little yarn.

Amigurumi Chocolate Cozies
I have a feeling that most of you have never seen a crochet book like this one before. I had never heard of a chocolate cozy, but now I have a whole book of them.
Amigurumi Chocolate Cozies by Sara Scales ./÷÷÷÷÷is a super fun book of 20 different crochet patterns. There are three different sizes for all your chocolate cozy needs.
These would be so much fun for gifts for kids. But to be completely honest, if someone gave me a chocolate candy tucked inside a crocheted cozy, my day would be made. A combination of chocolate and crochet… yes, please.
There are also projects for holidays like an angel for Christmas, a bat for Halloween and a bunny for Easter just to name a few.

Peter Panda & Pals
The next amigurumi book is Peter Panda & Pals. This is the cutest little amigurumi book designed by Femke from Sweet Amigurumi Design. There are 10 toys in total and each one is absolutely adorable.
One of my favorites is Albert the Whale! He’s a total of 9 inches long (23 cm). He’s just a little guy!
What’s nice is that while these projects are so cute they aren’t super complicated either.

Mini Amigurumi Nativity
The next book is perfect for this time of year and it’s Mini Amigurumi Nativity by Sarah-Jane Hicks of Flow and Dot.
This is such a sweet book of mini crochet amigurumi toys for Christmas. There is a basic doll pattern and from that you can make all the characters like Mary, Joseph, the angels and Wise Men. There are also patterns for baby Jesus, the sheep and a camel.
What’s nice about this book is that the projects are pretty small so if you work fast you might be able to have it done before Christmas! Plus I think that’s one of the sweetest amigurumi book covers I’ve seen!

Lulu’s Crochet Dolls
This next book is one of my favorites.
Lulu’s Crochet Dolls is a collection of 8 adorable dolls and accessories to crochet. Look at these adorable patterns.

Pocket Amigurumi Monsters
If you know a monster lover, this book is for you.
Pocket Amigurumi Monsters is a collection of 20 tiny characters, each one just 4 inches tall (10 cm).
The patterns are adorable, but one thing I really like about this book is the Crochet Crash Course in the beginning of the book. These are some of the best, large size drawings of how to crochet I’ve seen in a book.
Plus, this is the kind of book that I could see appealing to younger crocheters as well.

Birds, Butterflies & Little Beasts to Knit & Crochet
I’ve never seen anything like this next book and it’s one of my favorites.
Birds, Butterflies & Little Beasts to Knit & Crochet is a collection of 75 projects to make your own mini world.
Each one of the projects is something you can find in nature, but what makes it so unique is that there are both crochet and knit patterns…. in one book.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before and it’s brilliant.
These patterns are miniature creepy crawlies, beautiful butterflies, leaves, flowers and lots of other natural objects. The first part of the book are the knitted patterns and the back half are crochet.
