Top 10 BEST SELLING HOBBII YARNS Ranked WORST to BEST

Sharing is caring!

I’m on a mission to test the best selling yarns from companies around the world. And today I’m testing the Top 10 BEST SELLING HOBBII YARNS.

I’m going to be testing for several different qualities:

  1. Value (how much does it cost?)
  2. Color options
  3. How it feels working with it – with the suggested hook size
  4. Availability of high quality patterns featuring the yarn

Top 10 BEST SELLING HOBBII YARNS

Hobbii is a one-stop shop for crocheters and knitters located in Copenhagen, Denmark. They design, pack and ship from that location.

I’m seeing more and more people using Hobbii yarns for their crochet and knitting projects so I’m really excited to test out these ten different yarns.

Top 10 BEST SELLING HOBBII YARNS

This post contains affiliates links and at no cost to you I may earn a teeny tiny commission if you choose to purchase them. Please know that I only recommend products I use and love! Thank you for supporting Elise Rose Crochet! You can read my full (and slightly boring) full disclosure here.

The top 10 best selling Hobbii yarns do change from time to time, so when I purchase the yarn, I’m getting the top 10 best sellers for that day. So the yarns that I am testing today may not be the best sellers on the day you are watching this video. (But who cares, it’s still a fun experiment)

I’m starting with the lowest ranked yarn and will work my way up to number 1. Then at the end I will rank them from my least favorite to my most favorite.

Let’s get started!

How To Use Up Your YARN STASH | NO MORE WASTED YARN!

Hobbii Universe

In last place is Hobbii Universe. This is a number 1 Fingering Weight yarn, which means that it’s very thin. It’s 98% acrylic and 2% polyester.

All of the Hobbii yarns are OEKO Tex 100 Standard Certified, which means they have been tested safe so they contain no harmful chemicals or toxins.

It’s a long change color gradient yarn that has a glittery thread spun into it. It comes in 36 different colors and the one I purchased is Sun Halo.

Full price it’s $13.10 and you get 3.5 oz and 505 yards!

When looking at the yarn on Hobbii’s website you’ll find:

  • Customer Reviews – Universe has 367 reviews with an average of 5/5 stars
  • Patterns – there are 25 crochet and knitting patterns featuring this yarn, some are free and others are paid.
  • Photo Gallery – there’s also a photo gallery where customers can upload photos of the projects they have made with the yarn.
  • Q & A – you’ll also find a section where people have asked questions about the yarn in particular and gotten answers.
  • Video – finally you’ll find a tab for videos with the Hobbii team sharing about the yarn.

One thing I noticed was the center pull was sticking out of the skein, which I love. I detest hunting for the center pull and don’t even get me started out yarn barf.

The Dragon Scale Shawl is one of my favorite free crochet patterns featuring this yarn. It’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s a one-click download, which is really nice. To make this shawl you’ll need 3 of the Universe skeins and the designer is using the color Cassiopeia

The yarn label recommends a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Let’s get started.

Amigo XL

The next yarn is Hobbii Amigo XL. This is a 100% HB acrylic yarn.

HB stands for high bulk. It is a production technique that uses steam and pressure to make the fibers contract a little and curl so that they become fuller. The result is a light and soft yarn that is both comfortable to work with and to wear on the body.

It’s #4 medium, worsted weight yarn.

It comes in 61 different colors and this is color number 45, Bright Orange. Full price the yarn is $4.45 per skein and it’s 1.75 ounces and 109 yards. It’s double the thickness of the regular Amigo yarn.

It has 311 reviews with an average of 5/5 stars. There are 70 crochet and knitting patterns featuring this yarn and one of my favorites is the Heart on Crop Sweater

This is a free crochet pattern and I am in love. How fun is this project? It says it’s a Christmas sweater, but I would wear this all year round!

The recommended crochet hook size is 6 mm so let’s get started.

Amigo is the next yarn and it’s a 100% HB acrylic. The HB refers to the high bulk production technique that the Amigo XL also had.

It’s a number three light weight light worsted, DK yarn.

Rainbow Cotton 8/6

Next on the list is Rainbow Cotton 8/6. It’s a 100% cotton, number 2 Fine, Sport weight yarn.

You may be wondering what the number 8/6 means. It’s not a common way to describe yarn weights in the US.

I appreciate that the Hobbii website has an entire webpage dedicated to describing what this means for those of us who aren’t familiar.

“The numbers are – to keep it short – an old way of indicating the thickness of the yarn. The method may have different names depending on the country and region, but it’s often called the count system.”

The first number describes the thickness of the individual yarn strand. The second number signifies the number of individual strands the yarn is spun from.

The website also seems to imply that this way of describing the yarn thickness only applies to cotton yarns.

This means that the Rainbow Cotton 8/6 yarn is spun from 6 strands of size 8 thickness and belongs to the category Fine

We will be testing other yarns with this type of classification so keep that in the back of your mind.

Rainbow 8/6 comes in 56 different colors and I have Color 25, Pastel Mint

One thing I’m already noticing that I love is that there’s a little tag that says “Easy Start”. This looks to be the center pull and I can’t thank Hobbii enough for including this.

Like I mentioned before I dislike looking for the center pull and I wish every yarn included this.

Full price this yarn is $2.85 and is 1.75 ounces and 115 yards.

There are 175 reviews with an average of 5/5 stars. There are 100 different crochet and knitting patterns featuring this yarn and one of my favorites is a free pattern from Yan Schenkel of Animal Friends of Pica Pau. This is Anita Octopus and she is sooooo adorable.

I just love that cute little face!

The recommended crochet hook size is 3 – 3.5 mm so let’s get testing.
