Looking for the perfect yarn for amigurumi toys? Here you’ll find my favorite yarns for amigurumi in every price point. There are great yarns for crocheting and knitting toys for those on a budget and those with a little extra money to spend.
I love to experiment and that applies to amigurumi yarns as well. There’s nothing more fun than picking out a new yarn and testing it to see if it will work well for crocheting toys.
I also get bored pretty quickly so I have a habit of jumping from one thing to another. That negative character trait has actually been super helpful when it comes to amigurumi though.
My squirrely personality has caused me to try lots of different yarns for amigurumi toys. I’ve found yarns I love and some I really really don’t like.
But today I’m going to be sharing all the winners and at every price point: budget friendly yarns, luxury yarns and everything in between.

These are my favorite yarns for amigurumi in every price point. I have only included yarns that I have personally experimented with.
I’ve also chosen not to include the yarns that were total flops, I’m only sharing the best of the best.

Yarns for Amigurumi in Every Price Point – Budget Friendly Yarns
Premier Basix
Priced at $3.79 per 7 oz skein, this is THE most budget friendly yarn I’ve ever used.
It is surprisingly soft and comes in over 80 colors.
The price is 54¢ per ounce, it doesn’t get much better than that.
The Premier Basix Worsted is a heavier worsted and is the perfect type of yarn for amigurumi. It has a lot of structure so it holds the shape of the toy very easily. If you need those little ears to stand up nice and straight, this is the yarn for you.

What I love most about the Premier Basix Worsted is that there are so many skin color options if you are crocheting or knitting amigurumi dolls. Finding doll skin colors can be so difficult but the Premier Basix has a great selection of them.

I Love This Cotton
I recently needed a 100% cotton yarn for a project and I needed it right away.
The closest craft store for me is Hobby Lobby and I found the I Love This Cotton in abundance.
What surprised me the most is how soft it is. And at $3.79 per 3.5 oz that’s a pretty good deal.
We all know this (but just in case you don’t) all Hobby Lobby yarn is on sale for 30% off every other week. You can regularly get this yarn at $2.65 per 3.5 oz.
The non sale price works out to $1.08 per ounce and the sale price is even better at roughly 75¢ per ounce.
It comes in 47 different colors and you’re sure to find many that are perfect for amigurumi toys.

Yarns for Amigurumi in Every Price Point – Medium Priced Yarns
Yarn Bee Comfy Classic
The Yarn Bee Comfy Classic is one of those yarns that you are either going to love or you are going to hate it, lol.
It is incredibly soft and has a lot of wonderful stretch to it. But it’s a very different yarn than any of the others on my list.
This yarn has a ton of stretch. Think back to the panty hose you and your mom wore back in 1989, that’s how this yarn feels.
I absolutely luuuurrrve how stretchy it is, but I can see that for others it would be a royal pain in the rear end.
The only negative I found for working on this yarn was that it was a bit slippery in my hands. I had to grip it a lot more than normal, it has no tackiness to it. One tip is to make sure your hands are moisturized working with it. I found that if I put on a little bit of lotion beforehand it helped me to grip the yarn easier.
The Yarn Bee Comfy Classic comes in 15 different colors at $4.49 per 3.5 oz. The sales price is $3.14 per 3.5 oz.
That works up to $1.28 per ounce for the non-sales price and 89¢ per ounce for the sales price.
The reason that this yarn went into the medium priced yarn category is because although the price isn’t much more than the budget friendly yarns, I used a ton of it.
I’m not really sure why it uses a lot of yarn for a project, but that was my experience. You just might use more than you think you will compared to other yarns.

Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted
The Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted is another fantastic yarn for amigurumi.
What I love about this yarn is that it was created with the anti-pilling technology. If your toy is going to get a lot of hugs and cuddles, this is the yarn for you.
It comes in 67 different colors at $4.99 for 3.5 oz. That comes out to $1.42 per ounce. But make to get on the Premier email list to find out when they have their sales.

Paintbox Wool Mix Aran
I have a lot of experience with Paintbox Wool Mix Aran. This is a fantastic yarn for amigurumi projects.
Because it’s a wool blend it has a wonderful depth to it and creates a crisp looking yarn with a teeny tiny halo, which I love.

Cotton Fair
Cotton Fair by Premier Yarns is a dream to work with. This sport weight yarn is the softest yarn and works up beautifully.
You may be surprised to see another cotton yarn on this list because I have been pretty vocal about my reasons for not using 100% cotton.
But this yarn is a cotton blend. It’s the best of both worlds. It’s 52% cotton and 48% acrylic. It has the crispness and stitch definition of cotton but it’s got a little stretch to it so it doesn’t hurt your hands.
The only negative is that this yarn only comes in 22 colors. You can also find it in a bulky weight:
My hope is that one of these days you’ll be able to find this yarn in a DK and worsted weights in all the colors that the Premier Basix comes in. That would be a dream for amigurumi makers!

Berroco Vintage
Berroco Vintage is one of my hands down favorite yarns for making amigurumi. If you’ve seen any of my other posts, you may have heard me talk about it.
The reason I love this yarn so much is that the colors are to die for. They are deep, rich and many have a heathered hue to them.
They are perfect for the vintage look I love for my amigurumi toys.
But you can also make brightly colored toys with Berroco Vintage as well.

The yarn is 52% acrylic, 40% wool and 8% nylon. It’s got a nice stretch to it.
I used Berroco Vintage to make Zoe from the Zoe and Zach pattern from Kurumi Toys. I think she turned out adorable!

Stitch Please
Another favorite is the Premier Yarns Stitch Please yarns.
They have two different versions:
They both make gorgeous toys and are 100% wool. They both come in the most gorgeous colors.

Rowan Kid Classic + Rowan Kidsilk Haze
Rowan is one of my favorite luxury yarns and the combination of the two of these creates a gorgeous toy.
Rowan Kid Classic is 70% wool, 22% ,mohair and 8% polymide.
It comes in 28 colors and is $13.75 for 1.8 oz. That comes to $7.63 an ounce. Yikes.

I like to combine it with the Rowan Kidsilk Haze to create a super fuzzy texture.

Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino is one of my favorite yarns to work with. It is a sport weight yarn and comes in 45 beautiful colors.
Secondly, at full price it is $9.99 for 1.8 oz. That comes out to $5.55 per ounce.
It’s a yarn I use frequently to make the clothing for my Three Little Pigs and Not So Big Bad Wolf.
