I designed the Bitty Bunnies with the beginner in mind.

Above all, I wanted this free crochet pattern to be available to those with basic crochet skills and a desire to learn how to make amigurumi!

If you would like more help please see my post: How to Read a Crochet Pattern

Although you’ll find everything you need to know to crochet your very own Bitty Bunnies, I highly encourage you to follow along in the written pattern.

One of the skills that can be a bit tricky for beginners is learning how to make a magic ring. It’s a skill, just like everything else in crochet and can take some practice to learn.

The Bitty Bunnies: Benedict and Beatrice

Benedict and Beatrice are an adorable brother and sister pair. Most of the time you will find them bouncing around the house or chewing on crunchy carrots. But in the quiet of the evening they are especially fond of cuddling and love nothing more than to sit in a cozy lap and listen to a story.

Legs

Divide the legs by finding the front, center two stitches and the back, center two stitches. Use stitch markers to mark each section. You will have 2 st in front, 2 st in back and two 16 st legs = 36 st total.

Start at the back of the body when beginning to crochet the first leg. For the first leg, sc until you reach the stitch marker which marks the space between the legs and join across the body opening to the first sc on the front side of the body with a sc. Continue sc all the way around the leg. You should have 16 st. Continue with the pattern for rounds 38 – 51.

For girl bunny use pink for round 38 and then change to white for rounds 39 – 51.

•Rounds 38 – 49: sc in each st (16)

•Round 50: (2 sc, dec) repeat 4 times (12)

Stuff leg firmly

•Round 51: dec each st (6)

Fasten off leaving long tail for closing. Take yarn needle and stitch through the front lops of each of the remaining six stitches. Pull taut to close the leg. Weave in yarn ends.

For leg 2, attach the yarn at the back of the leg but leave an extra long tail for sewing up the space between the legs after both legs are complete. Repeat instructions for the first leg.

  1. This is so exciting! I have no idea what amigurumi is but you are so talented and so are your testers!!!

  2. Hello, I’m making this project, first amigurumi I’ve tried, I got a couple of doubts. After finishing the first leg, how do I “attach” the yarn to start the second one? Any specific technique for “sewing up the space between the legs”? And is there a technique for attaching the arms and ears?

    1. For attaching the yarn for the second leg just make a slip knot with your yarn and slip stitch to attach. There are different ways you could sew up between the legs but I just go back and forth from front to back. Also in this video I share how I seam pieces onto amigurumi. It’s about halfway into the video when I’m working on the alligator. Hope that helps! https://youtu.be/jNi35BkEm64

  3. I stumbled upon your youtube and blog only recently and got my first peak into the world of Amigurumi and boy I’m falling in love!! I am a complete beginner when it comes to crocheting but am looking forward to making my first Amigurumi with your Benedict bunny pattern.
