25+ Things to Crochet for BOOK LOVERS

As someone who has loved reading since I was a child, books have always been my escape, my adventure, and my comfort.

There’s nothing quite like curling up in bed with a cozy book or going for a brisk walk outdoors listening to a new favorite audiobook.

But when you can combine those two loves??? Does it get any better than that?

Crochet Book Sleeves

I’m going to break these projects into categories and we are starting off strong with crocheted book sleeves.

Crocheted book sleeves are perfect for keeping your favorite reads safe and stylish on the go! Whether you’re tossing a paperback into your bag or stashing your e-reader in your purse, a handmade sleeve helps protect the covers and pages from getting bent or scuffed.

Plus, they add a personal, cozy touch that store-bought sleeves just can’t match. You can customize them with fun stitches, colors, and even buttons or pockets for bookmarks. A crocheted book sleeve is not only functional but also a lovely accessory that shows off your creative flair as both a reader and a maker.

Crochet Strawberry Book Sleeve

The minute I stumbled across this project was the minute I knew I was going to make it.

This is the Strawberry Book Sleeve by Mythic Mist on Etsy.

How adorable is this cutie little strawberry book sleeve???

The pattern calls for one of my favorite yarns, Wool Ease Thick & Quick in the colors, Blossom, Succulent and Raspberry. It’s a number 6 Super Bulky, acrylic, wool and rayon blend. It is a dream to work with and these colors are perfect for this project.

Find Wool Ease Thick & Quick Here

It’s the perfect size for many of the books I own and while I’m keeping this for myself, it would make the perfect gift for any book lover!

You’ll also find a crochet pumpkin book sleeve as well as knitted versions of the pumpkin and strawberry book sleeves.

First of all this is a free crochet pattern and is customizable to fit any book or Kindle size.

This isn’t just a simple book sleeve, but there’s also a little pocket in the front for bookmarks, pens or markers!

Another thing I like about this pattern is that in the listing photo she is showing one of my favorite books, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I read this book last year and I flew through this incredible story. There were times that I had to remind myself that it wasn’t a true story and was just fiction.

Crochet Bookmarks

Crocheted bookmarks are a cute and practical way to mark your place in a book. They’re lightweight, easy to make, and can be customized to reflect your favorite themes or characters. Unlike paper bookmarks, they’re more durable and won’t easily bend or tear.

Plus, crocheted bookmarks add a personal, handmade touch to your reading experience, making them perfect little gifts for fellow book lovers or a special treat for yourself!

Book Rat Crochet Bookmark

I cannot handle the cuteness of this next project. It combines three of my loves:

  • books
  • crochet
  • amigurumi

A particularly erudite and well-read rat represents the Book Rat. Always to be found in libraries, bookshops and/or private bookshelves and often so engrossed in a book to realize the approach of the book owner that slams the book shut with the Book-Rat inside.

Supergurumi

This is one of my favorite projects and I love the little story about how the Book-Rat became so flat!

Book-Rat was designed by Supergurumi and the pattern calls for Schachenmayr Catania, which is a 100% cotton, sport weight yarn.

Smores Crochet Bookmark

Could this project be any cuter? These are the Smores Crochet Bookmarks by Topaz Eyez Designs on Etsy.

I cannot get over how adorable this project is, but it’s also quite practical at the same time! When you’re using it you have the graham cracker and chocolate at one end of the book and the marshmallow and graham cracker at the other end.

Another thing I like about this project is that the designer is demonstrating how to use the bookmark on one of my favorite books, Local Woman Missing. This was a great thriller and I listened to it on audiobook and the narrator was fantastic as well.

Mosaic Bookcase Crochet Blanket

This next project is a showstopper and it’s the Mosaic Bookcase by Zigz Crochet.

The pattern is made with nine different mosaic crochet charts and can be customized to create the crochet bookcase blanket of your dreams.

She’s also included a shorter version of the charts that are worked in the round so you can create a cushion, a bag or cover for your tablet or laptop!

Book Blanket (Temperature Style)

Although this isn’t a specific project, it’s more like a project idea.

Crochet temperature blankets are very popular. When making them you assign a color for a specific temperature range. Then throughout the year you track the temperatures and crochet the colors in that order.

It’s a fantastic way to keep track of the weather and it’s a fun project to work on all year long.

But did you know that you can apply the same concept to book genres.

Track all the different types of books you read and crochet them! Assign a color for each book genre and crochet them in granny squares, stripes or any other way you like.

Make sure to check out this blog post that give all the details!

Everything You Need to Know to Crochet a Book Blanket

There is also a wonderful Facebook group for those who want to crochet a book blanket. It was created and run by Jessica Barber. You can find the group here:

Crochet busy books for babies are soft, handmade activity books filled with fun textures, colors, and interactive elements like buttons, flaps, and pockets.

These books help develop fine motor skills, stimulate sensory play, and keep little hands entertained, all while being safe and gentle for tiny fingers. Plus, they make a thoughtful and creative gift for any new parent!

Sea Life Quiet Crochet Book

This next project is one of the most incredible crochet projects I’ve ever seen. The Sea Life Quiet Crochet Book is by Tonya Borisova.

Oh my goodness, how wonderful is this project?

I’m so impressed with the level of detail and how fun this would be for a baby or young child.

Find YarnArt Jeans Here

Miscellaneous Crochet Book Projects

This is the section for all the random crochet book projects that don’t fit into any of the other categories. You’ll find book ends, a wall hanging and even a miniature bookshelf.

Crochet Shark Book Ends

The Crochet Shark Book Ends is a project my boys would have loved when they were little. Heck, they probably would even like them now!

This free pattern is from Sonya from Blackstone Designs and it’s absolute perfection!

It took me a second to figure out how the shark bookends were suspended in mid air. Thankfully it’s all explained in the pattern, but (spoiler alert) you’ll need two clear bookends and a hot glue gun.

The Crochet Boho Hook Nook

The Boho Book Nook is a boho-style hanging basket that is the perfect size for a couple books or journals, a stack of magazines, a place for mail, or whatever you need it for!

Belle and Bean Crochet

This is the perfect project to make if you want to hang a book or two on a hanger on the wall or on the back of a door (ahem… like the bathroom).

The Boho Hook Nook would also be an adorable way to store books for a toddler and hang it just at their level. I love this project.

Crochet Book Bag with Granny Squares

One of my favorite crochet designers is Brittany from BHooked and this is one of my favorite projects.

The Crochet Book Bag with Granny Squares is a genius design because it’s sturdy enough to hold a heavy bag full of your favorite books, but it requires no sewing!

Brittany used a canvas bag as the foundation, which creates a very strong bag! It’s also a free pattern with a video tutorial!

I cannot talk about crochet projects to make for book lovers without including some Dr. Seuss projects. I loved these books as a child and so did my own children.

The Thing 1 and Thing 2 Crochet Hats from Repeat Crafter Me are absolutely adorable! When my kids were little I would have needed Thing 3 and Thing 4 hats, lol.

These are so much fun, but make sure to check out the other Dr. Seuss projects from Sarah. I especially love her Cat in the Hat Headband as well!

The Little Wild One and Friends digital PDF crochet pattern was inspired by my own children’s love of the classic tale and all things wild! For added versatility, this pattern contains Bonus Modifications to create three unique snugglers: Little Wild One (Wolf Pup), Little Brave One (Bear Cub), and Little Sly One (Fox Kit). There is also an Alternate Head option to allow the Hood to be made functional (like a hoodie!) for more interactive play.
