  • Mochi (for the socks and shirt)
  • Oats (for the shirt stripes and bowtie)
  • Mistletoe (for the overalls)

Note About Sizes

Notice that each one of the pigs was crocheted in worsted weight yarns, with the same size crochet hook, but came out very different sizes. This is why it is important to use the same yarns for the pigs and their overalls. Otherwise they might not fit properly.

Important Information about Crocheting Amigurumi with Clothing

When making amigurumi toys with separate clothing it is very important that you use the same brand yarn for the body and the clothing or use yarns with the same Wraps Per Inch (WPI).

Even if two yarns are the same weight they can be very different in thickness, which could make the clothing too small or too large.

Key

  • ch = chain
  • sts(s) = stitch(es)
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • inc = increase = 2 sc in one space
  • dec = decrease = sc2tog
  • BLO = back loop only
  • sc3tog = single crochet 3 together
  • 3 dc bobble = [yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook] three times in same stitch, with four loops on hook yarn over and draw through all 4 loops

Notes

•The Pig is crocheted using continuous rounds.

•Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.

•Keep an accurate count of your rounds and number of stitches per round.

•The number in front of the stitch abbreviation stands for how many stitches worked. For example: “6 sc” would mean “work one sc in each of the next 6 stitches”.

•The number in brackets at the end of a round indicates how many stitches

you should have after working that round.

•The best way to stuff is to do a little at a time as you are making the pig.

Suspenders

For the suspenders we are going to locate the four different spots that we will attach the suspenders to. Locate the front central stitch, count 6 sts to the left and 6 sts to the right, marking each with a st marker.

Join with a sc, one st to the left of the back right stitch marker. Work 27 sc (or sc to the front right st marker), ch 31, attach with a sl st to the back right at the st marker. Make 31 sc back across the chain and work a sc in the next st in the front. Sc 11 sc (or sc to the front left st marker), ch 31, join with sl st to the back left st marker.
