I TESTED the RED HEART ALL In ONE Flower Power Yarn – NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING

Sharing is caring!

When I heard about the brand new Red Heart All in One Flower Power yarn, designed to crochet continuous flower motifs with just one skein, I couldn’t wait to try it. After a less-than-ideal experience with their all in one granny square yarn, I’m eager to see if this version is more user-friendly and truly delivers on its promise to save time.

The minute that I learned that Red Heart had come out with their brand new Red Heart All in One Flower Power yarn I knew I HAD to try it!

This is their latest self-striping yarn designed to crochet continuous flower motifs with just one pull skein.

The tagline is “No more color switching – keep on stitching!”

A few months ago I tested their all in one granny square yarn and to say it left me feeling a tad bit frustrated would be an understatement.

So I am really excited to try it out and see if this version is a little more user friendly.

The All in One Flower Power Yarn is a #4 worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn. And as frustrated as I was with the All In One Granny Square yarn that I tested earlier this year, I was impressed with how nice the yarn felt.

This isn’t like Red Heart Super Saver, it’s a much softer yarn and felt more like a high quality acrylic. And I’m hoping that the All in One Flower Power yarn is just as nice.

It comes in 22 different colorways which is really fun. And some of them are really pretty. I especially like Marigold, Flower Field, Dried Bouquet, Hyacinth Bucket and Daisy Do. But when I went to purchase the yarn a lot of the color options were already sold out.

The point of the yarn is to “save time” by not having to change colors or weave in as many ends.

Patterns

Currently they have thirteen different free patterns on their website featuring the All in One Flower Power yarn and I especially love this Flower Bed blanket. And if this yarn works as well as they claim, I will be making it!

So I will stop jibber jabbering and try it out!

How to Use All in One Flower Power Yarn

Ok, I thought for some reason that this was going to be a video tutorial for the entire square, but it’s just some tips for making them and it goes really fast. But I did learn a few things:

  • Must pull from the center
  • Measure 4 inches (10 cm) for the tail
  • “Adjust Tension so color change is in between rounds”
  • Size your hook up or down to adjust tension

I learned from the All in One Granny Square yarn that it can take some time to figure out what will work based your own tension. For me that process was just so frustrating that I would rather change colors and weave in ends than have to adjust my tension every round.

How to Use Red Heart All in One Flower Power Yarn

Using Red Heart All in One Flower Power Yarn may feel a bit different than working with regular yarns, but with a few tips, you’ll be crocheting beautiful floral motifs in no time.

  1. Choose the Right Pattern
This yarn is designed for continuous flower motifs, so look for patterns specifically made for self-striping or all-in-one yarns. If you’re adventurous, you can create your own, but make sure the stitch sequence aligns with the yarn’s color changes to achieve the desired effect.
  2. Understand the Color Transitions
Take a moment to unwind part of the skein to see how the colors transition. This will help you predict when to start or finish certain sections of your project to keep the flower motifs seamless.
  3. Practice Your Tension
Practicing your tension is key when using this yarn, as it ensures the floral patterns form correctly. Too loose or tight, and you might lose the intended effect. Practice a few sample stitches to find the perfect balance. You may also need to change your crochet hook sizes for different rounds.
  4. Embrace the Learning Curve
The first few rows might feel tricky, especially if you’re adjusting to the color flow. Don’t get discouraged—this yarn rewards patience and experimentation!

Pros and Cons of Red Heart Flower Power Yarn

This yarn was quite a surprise. I was anticipating that it was going to be just as frustrating as the All in One Granny Square Yarn was.

It could be that I had some experience with the previous Red Heart self striping yarn or maybe it is a little more user friendly. At this point I’m not sure which is true or maybe it’s a combination of both.

  3. Pattern Dependence: Works best with patterns specifically designed for this type of yarn.
  4. Tension Sensitivity: Maintaining consistent tension is crucial to achieving the desired look, which could be challenging for some crocheters.
  5. Price Point: Specialty yarns like this can sometimes be more expensive compared to standard skeins.
