If when you’re going on vacation the first thing you pack is your yarn, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

Someone obsessed with amigurumi will plan out which projects they are going to work on during their vacation even before they plan other activities for themselves and their family.

Most people who are obsessed with amigurumi make sure they have enough room for yarn and supplies before they think about their own clothing and toiletries. If a person is deep into their obsession they may bring an entirely separate suitcase just for their amigurumi projects.

Give yourself one point if you pack your amigurumi supplies first.

But give yourself two points if you bring an extra suitcase just for your amigurumi projects.

How Many Patterns Do You Have?

If you have more amigurumi patterns than other types of crochet or knitting patterns, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

Most folks who are obsessed with amigurumi have more toy patterns than they will ever be able to make. They know this about themselves, but yet they continue to buy more patterns.

Those who are deep into their obsession have been known to buy a toy pattern that they know they will never crochet or knit.

If you have more amigurumi patterns than other types of crochet or knit patterns, give yourself one point.

Give yourself two points if you buy amigurumi patterns and have no intention of ever making them.

Shopping for Yarn

If when shopping for yarn, you are always on the lookout for the perfect skin and fur colors, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

Many people who are obsesseed with amigurumi shop for yarn with dolls, animals and creatures in mind.

They don’t look for yarns that look good with their own skin tone. Oh no, that doesn’t matter to them. They aren’t crocheting and knitting garments for themselves.

The only thoughts that come to their minds are “Is that the perfect reddish brown for a fox? Or is that the perfect caramel color for my new doll project?”

Give yourself one point if you shop for yarn with amigurumi projects in mind.

Give yourself two points if most of the yarn in your collection are for fur and skin colors.

Names You Know

If you know what “Pica Pau” is, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

Many people who are amigurumi obsessed know a lot of the different big name amigurumi designers.

You Use Your Friends & Family as an Excuse to Make Amigurumi

If you use your friends and family as an excuse to crochet toys, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

Many people who are obsessed with amigurumi use their family and friends as reason to crochet a new toy.

Any holiday or special event is a great excuse to crochet a toy!

Give yourself one point if you occasionally use your family and friends as an excuse to crochet toys.

Give yourself two points if you always use your family and friends as an excuse!

Sometimes you may run out of people to give amigurumi toys to, which can lead to the next sign.

Crocheting Toys Just for Yourself

Another sign is if you crochet toys just for yourself, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

People who are obsessed with amigurumi, crochet toys just for the joy of it. They like to make little dolls and animals for themselves.

Many of them don’t even hide the fact that they make amigurumi just for themselves. Some of them may even post about it on social media.

If single crochet is your favorite stitch, you might be obsessed with amigurumi.

There are so many different kinds of crochet stitches like double and half double crochet just to name a few.

But many people who are obsessed with amigurumi rarely use them.

If single crochet is your favorite stitch give yourself one point.

If you rarely use any other stitch besides single crochet, give yourself two points.

You Can Make a Magic Ring with Your Eyes Closed

Many people who are obsessed with amigurumi can make a magic ring with no problems. The fact is they have made a magic ring hundreds of times and it comes very naturally for them.

The magic ring can be tricky for other crocheters, who rarely use this technique, but for the amigurumi addict it’s so easy they could do it in their sleep.

Give yourself one point if you can make the magic ring with no problem.

Give yourself two points if you can make a magic ring with your eyes closed.

You Can Put Safety Eyes on a Toy With No Problem

Safety eyes can be a big problem for casual amigurumi makers, but not for the amigurumi addict.

They have developed their own tips and tricks to put those finicky safety eye backs on.

Some of them even own a tool that helps put on safety eyes.

Give yourself one point if you feel very comfortable putting on safety eyes.

But give yourself two points if you know what this tool is.

Amigurumi is a Word You Can Pronounce & Spell

The final sign that you might be obsessed with amigurumi is if you can pronounce and spell the word “amigurumi”.

Amigurumi is not a word that most English speakers are familiar with. The word is the Japanese term for crocheted or knitted toys.

If the word “amigurumi” rolls off your tongue without any problems, give yourself one point.

But if you can spell the word “amigurumi” with no problems, give yourself two points.

Total Your Points

Total up the number of points you scored.

• Amigurumi Ambivalent: 0-4 points
• Amigurumi Fan: 5-10
• Amigurumi Enthusiast: 11-15
• Totally Obsessed with Amigurumi: 16-20

Amigurumi Ambivalent

If you scored 0-4 points you are amigurumi ambivalent. You may dabble with crocheting toys, but you enjoy lots of other projects.

You may not even understand why people are so cuckoo for amigurumi. You’ve crocheted a toy or two, but they are definitely not your favorite thing to make.

Amigurumi Fan

If you scored 5-10 points you are an amigurumi fan. You like crochet. Making toys is a fun project, but it hasn’t taken over your crafting life.

You enjoy making toys for specific people or occasions. You like amigurumi, you don’t love it.
