Book Review: Animal Friends of Pica Pau
If you are a crocheter, I am certain that you have already seen the book, Animal Friends of Pica Pau. It has been all over social media! Countless crocheters are making the animals from its colorful pages.

I bought the book soon after it’s US release date in 2017. I was drawn to the unique characters on the cover and knew I had to have it. At the time I couldn’t even make amigurumi! I started with Victor Frog and so far I’ve made ten out of the twenty designs.
This book is my go-to for inspiration and patterns. Yan Schenkel’s ability to design such unique and adorable creatures is incredible. The puffin pattern is one of my absolute favorites! Not only are her patterns adorable but they can stretch beginner and intermediate crocheters skills. I learned how to read color charts from making Bonny Puffin.
Another one of my favorite designs is the panda. She is one of the easier patterns and I was able to complete her in half the time of other designs. Yan Schenkel’s ability to design animals with such personality is truly a gift.
There is no way I could ever choose which one is my favorite and I look forward to making each and every animal! Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

Hello Elise,
I just want to say I am in love with you! I stumbled onto your YouTube videos about a week ago and I have not stopped watching since. I used to crochet a LOT when I was a kid and then as I got older I have not done it as much; until one year for Christmas both my girls got a wobble kit and they needed a lot of help with them and I remembered how much I loved to crochet. I bought myself a few kits and have been loving them! This has let me to start wanting to increase my crochet skills. I just recently saw your 4 part series on the Amigurumi beginners and I wanted to see if you knew how I could get the pattern of the little otter? I loved her so much that I would like to try her out as my first “official” amigurumi pattern. I have recently bought several amigurumi Harry Potter doll patterns that I’d like to get to; but thought it wise to start with something just a little easier to get my feet wet and I thought the little Otter would be cute! Can you help me with this? I know it’s in a book but I really didn’t want to buy the whole book, is there somewhere I can just buy the pattern?
Thank you so much for your crochet story, your videos and just you!! I’ve enjoyed watching and reading everything you have put out.
Nicole
That’s wonderful! I’m not sure if that otter pattern is available individually. You could look on Ravelry to see, I would search for Pica Pau. If that pattern isn’t available I think she has some other individual patterns there!
