8 Absolutely Amazing Crochet Basket Patterns

Sharing is caring!

There are so many amazing crochet basket patterns all over the internet, almost too many. It can actually make it hard to find one that you really like. I’m sharing eight of my absolute favorites and I think you are going to love them as much as I do.

Baskets are so on trend these days. I see them all over Instagram and Pinterest. I love that they combine home decor, organization and crocheting all at the same time.

The problem is that it can be hard to weed through all the options to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Girl, I’ve got you.

Crochet Baskets

I’ve weeded through dozens of patterns and have handpicked eight of the most amazing crochet basket patterns. And I really think you’re going to like them as much as I do.

The form you have selected does not exist.

Whether you’re a crochet beginner or an experienced hooker, there’s a project for you.

One of the best things about crochet baskets is that you can easily customize them based on your need, your style and your budget.

Most of the time (if not all the time) gauge doesn’t matter, your hook size is just a suggestion and there are so many different types of yarn you can use.

Here are eight of my absolute, hands-down favorite patterns. Only one is a paid pattern, the rest are completely free. A few even have video tutorials to go with them. Score!

Jenna Stash Basket by TL Yarn Crafts

When I found out I had won a giveaway from Jenna @A-Cute Design. I was ecstatic.

I don’t usually win prizes and I certainly wasn’t expecting to win this one at all.

Jenna gave me the choice of any item in her Etsy shop and I had no problem picking. Immediately, I knew I wanted one of her wooden basket bottoms.

I’ve been eyeing the Jenna Stash Basket design from TL Yarn Crafts for quite some time, which incorporates Jenna’s basket bottom, and now was the perfect time to get started.

I ordered the T-shirt yarn from KnitzNPurlz and could not wait for my packages to arrive.

Basket Bottom

I had never worked with a basket bottom before and was excited to get my hands on one. When Jenna’s package came I immediately opened it to see it for myself.

The size and quality impressed me right from the start. The basket bottom was sturdy, without being bulky or heavy.

Each hole around the edges was perfectly spaced and I couldn’t wait for my yarn to arrive.

Tshirt Yarn

Since I had never worked with T-shirt yarn, let alone seen it in person, I was curious how it would look and feel.

I chose a beautiful floral design that reminded me of Laura Ashley from the 1980s. The soft greens and browns on the off-white background was the perfect choice for me.

The feel was definitely something I wasn’t expecting. It has a cool, cotton feel and was a little less stretchy than I thought it would be.

Cotton

Ever since I developed tendinitis two years ago, I have avoided using cotton yarns.

You can read more about that in my post: How I Healed my Crochet Elbow

I did find that using the T-shirt yarn aggravated my elbow and even my wrist a little. I was only able to work on the basket for short periods of time.

Between the cotton fiber and the bulkiness of the yarn, it definitely gave me a good workout.

Thankfully the project worked up super quickly and even with my limited ability to work on it, I had the basket complete in about a week.

Imperfections

I ended up making a big mistake and by the time I noticed it, it was too late and honestly, I was just too lazy to fix it.

In rounds two or three, I lost a stitch. Losing a stitch caused the pattern repeat between rounds to be off.

Although the finished basket didn’t end up looking exactly like the original pattern, it does look absolutely beautiful despite its imperfections.

Tofino Basket by Yarn Society

I love the name of this basket.

If you don’t know Katie, from the Yarn Society, you need to. She isn’t just a great crochet designer, but a wonderful person to boot.

Her Tofino Basket was inspired by her trip to a small town on Vacouver Island. That sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?

And if you’re also an amigurumi lover like me, you’ll want to check out all her free crochet toy patterns as well.

Fox Crochet Basket by My Cozy Studio

While researching baskets on Pinterest, I came across this adorable pattern and had to share it with you all.

I mean how cute is this little fox basket? It is equally as wonderful in a rustic orange color for a traditional fox as well.

This is the only paid pattern in the roundup and you can find it on Etsy.

Herringbone Square Basket Set by Yarn + Chai

The Herringbone Square Basket set is so modern looking and I am here for it.

I can imagine making these and using them for so many different things in my house and craft room.

They would be great for storing crochet hooks and notions.

I can also see them as bathroom or kitchen storage. There are so many different ways you could use these crocheted baskets.

Teddy Bear Crochet Planter by Thoresby Cottage

While technically not a basket, I had to include this adorable planter from Caitie from Thoresby Cottage.

Look at that adorable face and those ears. This combines my love of amigurumi and organization and I think it’s brilliant.

You could certainly use this Teddy Bear Planter for its intended use or you could use it to store pencils and pens, or crochet hooks, or even hair brushes.

It would look adorable as nursery decor with or without the plant. How sweet is this design?

Teardrop Hanging Baskets by Sweet Softies

How adorable is this Teardrop Hanging Basket from Sweet Softies?

I love that it is totally versatile and can be used for storing amigurumi or anything else your heart desires.

This free pattern is adorable and I can imagine it in so many different colors. It has that Boho look that is so popular right now and would be great for storage or even air plants.

Crochet Basket Tutorial by Cherry Heart

I love pretty much anything that Sandra from Cherry Heart designs. Her style is timeless and feminine.

This is the perfect pattern for a beginner. You don’t need any fancy supplies and is easily customized with different yarns, colors and hook sizes.

And if you haven’t checked out her podcast on Youtube, you need to. It’s like sitting down with a friend to chat about yarn, crocheting and knitting.

Waistcoat Crochet Basket by All About Ami

This beautiful design from All About Ami is everything a basket should be. It’s modern, useful and oh so perfect.

What I love about Stephanie’s pattern is that it is beautifully designed and she gives you options for the handles. You can crochet them like in the photo above or you can use leather and cord, which she has a tutorial for.

I also love that she has added her own logo tag, which makes the finished piece look so professional.
